Happy Birthday Dad

happy birthday dad 1

Chances are, if you’ve met me, you’ve likely met my dad, or it’s a matter of time before you do. Growing up, friends were frequently over for barbeques and game nights, sledding trips and boat days — and to this day, many still check in to see what he’s up to, or mention that they were in town and stopped by my parents’ house to say hello.

My dad is one of the best parts of my life.

When I was a little girl, he used to take me out for breakfast and bird watching on Saturday mornings, entertain my sister and I by juggling oranges or letting us do flips over his knees in the living room, and make sure the car was warmed up before driving me to swim practice at, like, 4 in the morning.

Now that my sister and I are older, he takes pictures of flowers in the backyard and emails us virtual flower bouquets, picks up candy for us on his way home when he knows we’ll be coming over, and talks to me for a few minutes almost every day on my way home from work. He also posted this caption of my mom on Facebook, which is probably one of cutest things I’ve ever seen, besides maybe this:

My dad has given my mom, sister and I the gift of being truly adored by a good man – you can see the way his eyes light up when he looks at us, feel the warmth in his tone when he picks up the phone, and hear the delight in his chuckle when we do something that makes him proud.

Happy birthday, Dad. I’m so lucky to be yours.

your father is a remarkable man that I have had the pleasure of knowing since I was a wee child. He and my brother Bill were great friends and still are. Myself for a short time was friend with Madeline……. whom I liked to call Maddie as a child. Steve came to see us a lot when our family moved to the beach. We remain great friend to this day and I am grateful for that in many ways. Steve is a good Man and a truly honorable Father and loves you girls more than life itself with a small exception made for Photography :) which I believe on of his true callings in his life time.
