ClassPass Review: Barre

classpass barre 2

As part of ClassPass, the app I’ve been gushing about that lets its members enjoy unlimited fitness classes around Seattle, I tried barre this week. And ho-ly. For a workout that doesn’t require heavy cardio and sweating the entire time, I’ve never felt my muscles burn so hot or shake so much. Have you tried it? The class essentially uses body weight against a dance bar to isolate teeny-tiny movements that target, tone and strengthen key muscle groups. We planked, we push-up’ed, we used bands and weights and balance balls. The hour-long class flew by insanely fast, and I was so hooked that I woke up at 6 a.m. the following Saturday to pop into another class. If you’re looking for a cardio workout, this probably isn’t it — but it is a total-body toning workout, with a lot of movements that you won’t normally get to do on the treadmill.

I visited Barre3 for my first few barre classes, but the beauty of ClassPass is that there are a dozen other studios where I can still try it out throughout the rest of the month. If you’re a Seattle-ite and want to join me — let me know!

Votes on what we should attempt next week?

This is part of a series where we are trying new exercises and studios throughout Seattle (and other major U.S. cities) each week via the website / app ClassPass. You can check it out for yourself here.
