I’ve always ebbed between love/hate phases with breakfast. I’ve never been someone who has to have it, but I try to give my body enough fuel to get me through the morning and into lunchtime, when I really start to feel the hunger pangs. So, I’ve been trying to make friends with breakfast — that is, find a healthy breakfast recipe that is tasty enough that I actually look forward to it and want to make time for it in my routine, and nutritious enough that it keeps me satisfied and going strong all morning. And lo and behold, I found a recipe that fits the bill!

Heart Swells

This was a really good week and I can hardly believe another Friday has already come around again. There is always a lot to be thankful for, even on weeks when it’s harder to find, but the last few days contained many gems. The moments that brought a smile to my face: Read more…

Dear Data

Stefanie_DearData_07+front

It seems that just about everything we do these days can be sliced, diced and analyzed by Big Data – from what we eat to even who we choose to date, online or otherwise. Two designers on opposite sides of the globe decided to add a little bit of humanity back into our data-obsessed world. They send each other postcards each week, on one side giving a data-fied version of something like their phone addiction habits or transportation methods, and on the other side providing a code for how to read the data through colors, symbols, etc. It’s pretty fascinating to see how each designer interprets the theme each week, not to mention what the data reveals. The designers are on week eight of a yearlong project, so you can follow along here, if you’d like. Here are a few examples of their postcards thus far…

Shonda Rhimes: You Are Not Alone

shonda rhimes you are not alone speech

Shonda Rhimes, writer and producer of powerhouse television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, spoke at The Human Rights Campaign Gala on Saturday. And her speech was every bit as moving and enthralling as the episodes she produces for television. The overarching theme was “You Are Not Alone.” A few of my favorite excerpts: Read more…

Heart Swells

heart swells

This weekend, I’m traveling again to celebrate a birthday on the big island of Kona, Hawaii. This week was full of a lot of anticipation and fun in getting ready to hit the road again. The moments I’m thankful for:

– A much-awaited girls night with Anna
– The season finale of the Bachelor with good friends and a little French bulldog
– A dual going away / birthday party at the Garage
– Two full weekend days to tackle projects
– Squeezing in a Flywheel class
– A morning superfood bowl at Healeo, my fave <3
– Catching up with my sister, if only via text until I can see her in person
– Seeing my dad for a few minutes in the harbor, and his thoughtful book
– Making this video with Lisa

Until next week, you may follow my travels on Instagram, if you’d like. Have a lovely weekend! xo

Springtime Rhubarb Homemade Facial Recipe

springtime rhubarb homemade facial recipe

I recently teamed up with my friend, Lisa, from The Skinny on Health to make a VIDEO (!) of a springtime summer facial. The facial is not only all natural and easy to make at home, but it utilizes fresh ingredients that are in season this time of year and great for your skin:

Rhubarb: The star player, packed full of vitamins and ascorbic acid
Pineapple: Full of amino acids, vitamin C, and collagen to tighten skin
Lemons: Their citric acid brightens skin, fights acne and moisturizes
Mint: Cooling with a refreshing scent
Greek Yogurt: Antibacterial + full of zinc to fight blemishes and tone

Things to Do in Seattle this Spring

things to do in seattle in spring 1

The first day of spring is only a week away, and all of Seattle has been buzzing over it. We got lucky with a few 60+ degree days last weekend, and the entire city was out and about, hiking up trails, brunching on rooftops, and boating around the Puget Sound. I rounded up a list of things to do in Seattle this spring — including the best of Seattle spring concerts, festivals and other activities. Read more…

L.A. Weekend

los angeles weekend 25

Last weekend I went to California to visit a few girlfriends who I lived with in college and still consider among my closest friends to this day. We played on the beach, hiked in the hills, dined at our favorite restaurants, and lounged on the couch, catching up over wine and surplus Valentine’s Day chocolates. I love these girls more than words can express, so I thought a photo recap of the weekend might say what words can’t… Read more…

Heart Swells

heart swells

I spent last weekend with my girlfriends in sunny California (pics next week!) and the days flew by after that. I reconnected with another person in Seattle who’s been one of my closest friends for over a year now, all because of a text I received as I was about to board a flight for 1,000 miles away. This week was a reminder that you really just never know what a day will bring; and while sometimes that’s not always a good thing, sometimes it really is. The other moments that made my heart swell:

– Spending the weekend with my girlfriends in Southern California
– Dinner and wine at Bodega
– Living room floor conversations with Jessie
– A day to myself to take SoulCycle, walk the beach and visit Urth Caffe
– Skipping, dancing and hiking up Agoura Hills
– Dinner at Black Market (ah-mazing food)
– Driving around my old stomping grounds of Malibu and playing on the beach
– A hot tub sesh and a torrential downpour
– An unexpected text and a new relationship
– Reconnecting with my best friend
– A much awaited night out to heart-to-heart and share cocktails with Anna
– Mornings working with Megan

P.S. If you’d like to see a sneak peek of some photos, follow me on Instagram.
